References to birth often relate to baptism and those to death may be burial.
The story starts with Mark Coney born in about 1520 in Burwash, Sussex but about which nothing else is known except that he had at least one son -
SIMON Conny born in about 1541 in Burwash and who married Elizabeth in about 1562 in Burwash. She was born in about 1545 in Burwash. In 1594 Simon is noted as owning property adjoining Mount House, Burwash ( his great grandson John later bought Mount House in 1672). They had eight children, all born in Burwash - Simon ( b 1561), Agnes ( b 1562), Judith (b 1563), Mary (b 1563), William ( b 1565 – d 1566), Stephen ( b 1568), Mark (b 1571), Joyse ( b 1574).
Simon died 10th November 1609 and we have his will dated 25th February 1608 with probate granted 25th February 1611(AMS5744/146). He left a £6 annuity to his wife and all his land to his son Mark. Personal and chattel bequests to son Stephen, his son Simon and daughter Ann; son Mark and his daughter Elizabeth; daughter Joyce wife of John Hooper; daughter Agnes wife of John Iden, daughter Mary wife of Joseph Knighte and their daughter Agnes, daughter Judith wife of John Cogger; Stephen Tutty, Elizabeth Cade and Mary daughter of Richard Harmer
His executor was his son Stephen. Elizabeth, his wife, died 30th December 1628.
In the next generation Agnes married John Iden and her death is unknown. Judith married first Goddard Cruttendon on 1st December 1584 and after his death in 1601 she married John Cogger on 26th July. Her death is unknown. Mary married John Knighte and died in September 1568. Joyse married John Hooper in 1595 and her death is unknown.
SIMON,(b 1561) who at some stage appears as Conie, died 1st May 1648 but there is no further information regarding his life except that in his will his father Simon refers to a daughter Ann. Probate was granted on his will on 7th December 1648 leaving chattel bequests to wife Elizabeth and children Elizabeth(18) and John (14). His wife was executor. He lived in Burwash in a garden and croft north of Colmans croft
STEPHEN ( b 5th August 1568 )married Ann Mercer( 1561 – 1625) on 22nd September 1693. They had 5 children. Anne born about 1590 in Dallington but is this possibly Simon’s daughter as above? Agnes born about 1594 in Burwash; Mark born 1595; Simon born 1598; Mercy born 16th February 1600 and married Anthonie Barnes 8th October 1622 in Ticehurst and died in 1633. Little is known of the other children. Stephen died in 1639.
MARK, who was left Simon’s land, was born 29th April 1571. He married Helen( also known as Ellen or Eleanor) Byne ( 1585-1648) 31st January 1602 in Burwash.
They had 11 children – a son who died at birth in 1603; Elizabeth b.13th October 1605 and who married Thomas Jarvis 4th May 1624. She died in Ticehurst in December 1680. From documents held in the National Archives refAMS5744/65-66 it is clear that property was passed from the Byne family, and the Coney family assembled Bowman’s Farm between 1621 and 1705. Bowman’s farmhouse was built in the 17th century or earlier and still exists as a Grade II listed building.

MARK, son of Stephen, b 14th March 1595 and died in 1648. The number of deaths in this year suggests an outbreak of the plague. No further information
